This effect was first published in the Better Builder PDF book.
This is a unique way to introduce the Three Little Pig builders with magic and audience participation. Three children are asked to play the parts of the three pig builders. This is a wonderful opportunity to dress the helpersin pig noses and silly hats. Since they are builders, construction hats would work well too. If you choose pig noses, I recommend finding an inexpensive source and giving the helpers the noses. Anotheroption is to makepig masksand attach to sticks for helpers to hold. This will allow the children to look like pigs (can’t believe I just wrote that) and eliminate the need for nose giveaways.
The effect is a simple prediction, however, there are multiple opportunities for humor. The performer shows a box or bag holding three elements of the home to be built. Since this is a DIY effect, you may choose to have items inside the box or duplicatepicture cards from the art provided. I chose to make a lamp with a magic light bulb for an additional look don’t see finale. Since the pigs are prognosticating builders, they should be able to determine the elements of the house. Picture cards are used to force the choices. An additional “Wolf” card is added as a running gag. See video for full instructions.
Have you heard the story of the three little pigs? This isn’t it. This is thestory of theSwine Brothers. They are thePrognosticating Pig Pen Professionals. Do you need a pen? They’ll put you in it. They are the most famous builders in fairy tales.
It’s time to meet the swine. (Choose helpers.) The oldest brother is Einswine. He’s one smart pig. He knows how to bring home the bacon. He’s in charge of the structure. Whether you want straw, sticks or stones, he can make it happen. Einswine, when I tap your shoulder please say, “I’m one smart pig.” (Allow helper to practice.)
This is Abra-Ham Link Sausage. He’s the pig prince of pipe and the king of link. Abra-Ham, when I tap your shoulder please say, “I’m the pipe prince.” (Allow helper to practice.)
This is Bacon Edison. (This character would be best as an adult so he can be teased more) He’s in charge of the electric lighting. It doesn’t take a lot of skill to screw in a light bulb. Bacon, when I tap your shoulder please say, “I’m a bulb boy.” (Allow helper to practice.)
I’m going to hire the Prognosticating Pig Pen Professionals to build me a house. You must be wondering what is a “Prognosticating Pig?” “Prognosticating” is a big word that means they know what will happen before it happens. Yes, that sounds impossible but it’s also impossible for pigs to talk and here they are doing just that. (Tap each helper to say their lines.) See I told you pigs could talk. However, they never fly.
Inside that box is a very special lamp. The lamp contains parts of the type of structure, plumbing pipe and lighting that I want in my new house.
Today we’ll see if our Prognosticating Pig Pen Professionals can ponder to pick what I want. In other words, can they choose correctly. They will be choosing from these picture cards.
The first choice to be made is the structure. Einswine is in charge of structure. Your choices are a straw house, a wood house, a brick house, or the Big Bad Wolf! No! Not the wolf. I’m scared of wolves. Are you scared of wolves? So am I. I’m getting rid of the wolf card. (Hindu Flash Force the card you wish to force.)
Abra-Ham Link Sausage, you’re in charge of plumbing. You will choose the type of pipe. Your choices are Plastic, Metal, Copper, and the Big Bad Wolf! No! Not the wolf. I’m scared of wolves. Are you scared of wolves? So am I. I’m getting rid of the wolf card. (Hindu Flash Force the card you wish to force.)
Bacon Edison, you’re in charge of lighting. Your choices are Florescent, that’s the bulbs with the curly pig tails, candlelight, LED bulbs, and the Big Bad Wolf! No! Not the wolf. Are you scared of wolves? So am I. I’m getting rid of the wolf card. (Hindu Flash Force the card you wish to force.)
All the choices have been made and the Prognosticating Pig Pen Professionals have chosen a brick house with copper pipe and LED light bulbs. If the lamp in that box matches, then we really do have Prognosticating Pigs. (Show lamp.) No! Not the wolf. I’m scared of wolves. Are you scared of wolves? So am I. The wolf must go. (Remove wolf card to reveal lamb behind it.)
The pigs did it! These are the smartest pigs I know. Actually, they are the only pigs I know. Please give the Swine Brothers a round of applause as they return to their seat.
Boys and girls, I didn’t tell you this, but my house is not just going to be made of brick with copper pipe and LED light bulbs. (Prepare to light magic light bulb.) It will also have magic lighting! I’ll have a magic word. When I say the magic word, the bulbs will light. Of course, I can choose any word I want. It might be abra-cadabra or have a banana. But it certainly won’t be wolf. (Light the bulb when you say, “wolf.” Present a few more minutes of look don’t see with the bulb and the magic word, “wolf.”)
The Prognostication Lamp
How you wish to end your pig story is up to you. I chose a brick house with copper pipe and LED lighting. My decision was made based of items I had in the garage at the time. I used two foam bricks, a piece of wood to represent cement, a length of copper pipe, a lamp socket, and a magic light bulb. The light has a magnetic switch inside that is activated with a magnetic ring. The light adds a touch of magic at the conclusion of the prediction reveal as well as some great look don’t see potential.
