The stuff we have to do to make a living in entertainment is sometimes unspeakable. Here’s a little Barry history for you. I first came to the Smoky Mountains, Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg, in 1982. I worked as the magician on the mountain at Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort. I also did programs in campgrounds at night as part of a ministry. One of the bits in the evening program was an OLD, OLD joke we called Smoky Mountain Boy. I have no idea where the bit originated or if the guys I worked with actually wrote it. However, I believe it’s just OLD. I didn’t do the bit in 1982 because I was the magician. A couple of the other performers did it and I remembered it when I started performing at the Dixie Stampede in 1992. I used it in the saloon show at Dixie for 4 years. It was a VERY memorable bit in the show. Side note: as of 2018, Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede has changed the name to Dolly’s Stampede.
After leaving Dixie, I opened for several Country music stars in different theaters in Pigeon Forge and did the bit in all of them. This performance is from the Country Tonite theater. I sometimes fill in for the comedian at that theater when he takes a day off. Hope you enjoy a man in a dress.
